The nervous system is broadly divided into two branches - the central and the peripheral nervous system out of which the central nervous system consists of the brain and the spinal cord.
The main function of the central nervous system is to integrate the information and then perform the necessary control to perform different functions.
The two main components of the central nervous system - the brain and the spinal cord are enclosed in protective layers known as meninges.
The brain is further enclosed in the skull and the spinal cord lies caudally to it.
