Respuesta :
Form follows function in cell biology states that the form and shape of the body is linked to the function of that structure. For proper functioning of a cell or tissue, the structure of the cell or tissue evolves with time. This proves that the form or shape and function works together i.e., they are inter-related. If the function changes then the structure also needs to change for ideal working of the body.
This is based on the principle that forms follow function.
It means that the function of any part of the body dictates the shape or form of that body part.
Examples are; human arms and bat wings; human hands and cats paws.
- Form follows function is a principle of design that has been around since the early 20th century and it was first used by Louis Sullivan in relation to buildings where he stated that the purpose of a building is what should dictate the design of the building. This means the first thing to consider in design of a building is it's purpose or function before its' shape or form.
- Applying this rule to biology, we can say that the function of any part of the body dictates the shape or form of that body part.
Examples are;
- Comparing human arms to a bats wing. They both have the same bones but are shaped differently to suit their functions
- A cats paw and human arms have similar bones but are built differently to suit their purposes or functions.
