A store is having a sale. Each customer recieves either a 15% discounton purchaaes under $100 or 20% discount on purchases of $100 or more. Kelly is purchasing some clothes for $96.60 befire the discount. She decides to buy the fewest packs of gum that will increase her purchase to over $100. The price of each gum pack is $0.79. After the discount, how much less will kelly pay by purchasing the clothes and the g instead of purchasing only the clothes? (Assume there is no sales tax to consider.)

Respuesta :

well first we figure out how much our 15% discount was when our total was 96.60 soo we do that by multiplying 96.60 and 0.15 to lets do that
96.60 x 0.15 = 14.49
so now we subtract that value
96.60 - 14.49 = 82.11
so our first value is $82.11

now lets find out second one* it has a little bit more work...
first of all we need to add 0.79 to our 96.60 amount until we get to $100 so lets do that :)
 96.60
+ 0.79
********
  97.39
+  0.79
********
  98.18
+  0.79
********
  98.97
+  0.79
********
  99.76
+  0.79
********
 100.55
so finally we got to our 100 value by adding 0.79 five times!
now we can find our 20% value
so lets multiply 100.55 times 20% or 0.20:)
100.55 x 0.20 = 20.11
so lets subtract and find our discounted price
100.55 - 20.11 = 80.44

Now we have both of our discounted prices! lets subtract them to find the difference
 $82.11 - $80.44 = $1.67
she will pay $1.67 less with the 20% discount and added gum:)
i hope this was helpful:)
and don't forget 2
