Answer:

All the options are correct.

Function of dermis - provides cells for wound healing

Assists in retention of body heat

Acts as mechanical shock absorber

Inhibits proliferation of microorganisms.

Explanation:

The dermis is the deep, vascular layer of the skin. It is derived from the mesoderm. It is composed of connective tissues such as collagen fiber, elastin, and reticular fibers. Besides these fibers, the dermis is supplied with blood vessels, lymphatic vessels, and nerves. It has skin appendages like hair follicles, sebaceous glands, and sweat glands.  The hair follicles helps in retention of body heat.

The dermis has 2 layers - outer papillary layer and the inner reticular layer. The connective tissues are arranged from the outer papillary layer to the inner reticular layer. The reticular layer is composed of collagen fibers. It protects the skin from mechanical forces like a shock.

In old age, the elastic fibers have loosened and skin becomes wrinkled.

The dermis is the real skin because when the skin dries, it makes green hide in the skin. When the skin tanned, it makes leather. The dermis provides resistance to mechanical stress and strain. It acts as a barrier to infection. It is also participating in wound healing. It exerts inductive effects on the overlaying epidermis and appendages.
