Major Grant had surrounded an allied army with Pemberton as the head of the operations. Gradually, there were continuous siege in and around the area of Vicksburg.
Pemberton’s men built forts and trenches to defend Vicksburg but the grants army attacked and seized the area.
There were shortage of food supply and weapons worn out, Pemberton surrendered to Major Grant. Grant’s siege on Vicksburg was remarkable in the American history. Grant’s Army started from Tennessee.
