Newtons first law is that an object in motion stays in motion and an object at rest stays at rest.
In other words if you were to have an object let’s say a soccer ball resting on the floor it will not move unless something else forced it to. That something else could be wind or someone kicking it etc. etc. but it would stay still unless someone moved it.
The same works in reverse. Once you kick a soccer ball in theory it would keep going forever. Only it doesn’t because of several forces including wind resistance or gravity.
