Solve the following equation. Express your answer as an integer, simplified fraction, or decimal rounded to two decimal places. A rectangular-shaped parking lot is to have a perimeter of 438 yards. If the width must be 86 yards because of a building code, what will the length need to be?

Respuesta :

The width of a rectangle is going to be equal on both sides, as they’re parallel in a rectangular shape. We know the width is 86 yards, and we have two lots of these, therefore 86 multiplied by 2 is equal to 172 yards.

We still have two more sides, but once again, because this is a rectangle, those sides must be equal. Therefore if we subtract the 172 yards we know from the total perimeter of 438 yards we will end up with an answer of 266 yards. This figure is divided by two because we have a length on either side of the perimeter. Therefore the answer is 133 yards.

Hope this helps!
