Answer: the south was still trying to recover from the civil war, still remaining mostly agricultural, however the south grow in foresting and mining which brought hope
Explanation: Hope this helps :)
After the Civil War ended, the U.S. saw a period of business boom that was primarily based in the North for reasons such as:
- The South suffering physical damage from the war
- Northerners owning most of the railroad
- Little capital investment into the South
Even before the Civil War, the South had been an agrarian economy that relied on plantations while the North was increasingly industrialized.
During the war, most of the action took place in Southern lands which led to devastation of properties and farms which the South relied on.
When the war ended, the North controlled even more things and so the South could not develop as fast because:
- Northerners controlled the railroads and so determined the prices of the crops the South relied on as they could charge whatever they wanted for transport
- There was not enough investment into the South on account of the damage done to it.
In conclusion, the period after the Civil War was a good one for the nation in general but not so much for the South.
