Napoleon Bonaparte was a great military commander who was in charge of France and was very successful because of how wel he was able to read the situations and strength of his enemies and make plans to attack.

Personally, i feel that his most costly mistake was his engagement in the Peninsular War where he wanted to take control of the Iberian Peninsular and had to fight the combined forces of Spain, United Kingdom and Portugal which greatly weakened his forces and contributed to the fall of his empire.
