Please explain the difference between an isotonic solution and a solution in equilibrium. Please do not use anything from the internet because I need an explanation in the words of a peer, not a scholar. Thank you!

They both refer to the same definition but they have different usages. Well isotonic solution is a solution in which equal concentrations of solute(mostly salt) are present both inside or outside the cell. And equilibrium means a state of being. Meaning when we say something is in equilibrium the actions and reactions of that body/chemical is equally(the actions and reactions) acting. It means both sides of your chemical equation are equal in concentration.
