Ok so I’m not certain that this is correct, but I think that when his empire broke up, the fragments of his empire were weak and vulnerable. This caused peasants (serfs) to ask knights for protection, which led to the emergence of feudalism. Feudalism is asking for protection from some people in exchange for loyalty from the peasants.
When Charlemagne's empire got divided, the peasants who were weakened sought the assistance of wealthy landlords, giving the rise to feudalism in the society.
What is feudalism?
Feudalism is a system wherein a strong individual or group of individuals provide the protection to the poorer sections of the society in exchange for loyalty towards them.
When the empire of Charlemagne got separated into different regions, the internals of the social conditions made the peasants and farmers poorer than before, which invited feudalism in the society.
Hence, it can be concluded that the emergence of feudalism in the society undertook after the weakened conditions of the Charlemagne empire.
