United States transform from a rural to an urban country between 1865 and 1945 because of these reasons:-

1. The new immigration- Before the civil war( old immigration pre- 1880) immigration to the United States is mainly from western and central Europe. and after 1880 new immigration is basically from Balkans and Russia. The new immigrant settled in the poorer sections of the major cities, and these poorer sections nicknamed as:- Little Italy, Little Bohemia, or Chinatown.

2.Skyscrapers and mass transit:- As the population of cities increases cost of land also increases which gave the idea of forming skyscrapers. This pushes city upward.

3.Transportation System:- It is pushing city outwards. Transport system had increased the internal migration of the country.
