A reaction in which oxidative decarboxylation is involved in cellular respiration is termed as Bridge Reaction. Living things use glucose and this process of meeting all their energy needs is called glycolysis.
In easy terms, we can say glycolysis means breaking of sugar. Bridge reaction is like a processing center between anaerobic reactions (collecting chemical energy without oxygen) of glycolysis and aerobic respiration that occurs in mitochondria.
It is also called pyruvate oxidation. Pyruvate oxidation creates acetyl CoA from a three-carbon molecule which is the fuel for the next step in the process of cellular respiration, i.e. citric acid cycle.
