All living things need energy to carry out life functions. Organisms get energy in different ways. Producers are organisms that get their energy directly from the sun. All plants are producers. The chlorophyll in plant cells traps the sun's energy. The plant uses the sun's energy + water + carbon dioxide to make sugar that the plant then uses for its life functions. Plants are lucky because they are never hungry! The produce their own food!
