Chlorophyll is the pigment that helps to trap the energy of sunlight and aid the process of photosynthesis. Chlorophyll pigment is found in the cell organelle chloroplast which is absent in animal cells. Like the mitochondria chloroplast also has membranes.  

The innermost membrane of the chloroplast is the thylakoid membrane which appears in folded form. It looks like stacked coins. Chlorophyll pigment is of different types and each type absorbs different wavelengths of sunlight.
