  • The ovum is released from the grafiaan follicle during the ovulatory phase of Menstrual cycle.
  • It is caused by the increasing turgidity and contraction of smooth muscle fibres around the Graafian follicle.
  • During ovulation the ovum is at secondary oocyte stage.
  • Ovum released from the Graafian follicle is trapped by the fimbriae of the ampulla of fallopian tube.
  • Then the ovum moves into the oviduct towards the uterus by peristalsis and ciliary action of the walls of oviduct which is made up of ciliated columnar epithelium.
