Knights were governed by a basic principle of chivalry. Chivalry held its own morals and beliefs for how knights were supposed to operate and behave. Knights were expected to maintain Christian principles, to serve their lords or kings to the point of death, to follow and respect authority, to protect and fight for the underpriveleged, to be honorable, to accept challenges from enemies with valor, to respect and honor women, and to be truthful and responsible in all that they did. Hope this helps.
