Alaska is LARGE, REMOTE, and geographically challenging. These features make the cost of doing EVERYTHING very high.

There has been relatively little economic activity/development and infrastructure development or other reasons to draw people into the state. Especially outside the ‘rail-belt’ corridor between Anchorage and Fairbanks.
