Yes, Jews incorrectly believed that Jesus was the savior or deliverer who would free them from the bondage of Rome. And the Jewish Sanhedrin was extremely jealous of the appeal Jesus had among the people. They viewed Him as a threat to their power and prestige, thus plotted to have Him killed. Ironnically, Jesus IS the Savior who frees all from the bondage of sin.
