Respuesta :
The Medici family, also known as the House of Medici, first attained wealth and political power in Florence in the 13th century through its success in commerce and banking. Beginning in 1434 with the rise to power of Cosimo de’ Medici (or Cosimo the Elder), the family’s support of the arts and humanities made Florence into the cradle of the Renaissance, a cultural flowering rivaled only by that of ancient Greece. The Medicis produced four popes (Leo X, Clement VII, Pius IV and Leo XI), and their genes have been mixed into many of Europe’s royal families. The last Medici ruler died without a male heir in 1737, ending the family dynasty after almost three centuries.
The problems that the Medici family would face would be the problems of managing economic resources, unbridled spending, indebtedness, and reputational destruction.
We can arrive at this answer because:
- The Medici were a very influential family in Florence.
- They were extremely wealthy and involved with all branches of society.
- They had a strong influence on art, economy, religion, and even the monarchy of other countries, where they could control everything and everyone.
- The Medici's success spanned generations, where the family's reputation and economic resources were well managed to allow them to remain a powerful family.
However, care in the management of economic resources diminished with each generation, which became a danger to the power of the Medici. One of his descendants, a libertine and irresponsible Duke, ended all influence in the family, depleting their economic resources, creating debt, and damaging the family's reputation.
To destroy the family once and for all, the Catholic Church helped another very wealthy family to usurp the power of the Medici.
