Before the creation of freedom of information act, the Public does not possess any information regarding the activities made by the government. This created a situation where the people have to trust every single thing that the government officials say in face value, and a lot of them able to conducted a corrupt practice and get away with it.

Freedom of Information Act was enacted July 5, 1967 and allowed every legal citizens of united states to possess the records/documents regarding government activities upon request. (does not include classified information from intelligence agencies).

This allow people to watch over how the government uses its budgets/spending. This act mostly benefited journalists since it allowed them to conduct their investigative journalism and exposed a lot of officials who conducted shady practices.
