We do so by finding the value of [tex]f(0)[/tex] because everything that is at x = 0 it must intersect y.
[tex]f(0)=3(0-1)+5=2[/tex]
So the y-intercept at x = 0 is y = 2.
Hope this helps.
[tex]\text{In order to find the y intercept, x has to be 0}\\\\\text{Plug in 0 to x and solve:}\\\\f(x)=3(0-1)^2 +5\\\\f(x)=3(-1)^2 +5\\\\f(x)=3(1)+5\\\\f(x)=3+5\\\\f(x)=8\\\\\boxed{\text{The y-intercept is at 8}}[/tex]
