As a theatre student of 4 years I can tell you the actor goes to his/her left.
The answer is: he would move to his left.
Stage directions are part of the notations included in a playwright script (they are to be identified by being written in between brackets). These tell the actors how and where to move, where to sit or stand, or from where to enter or exit. These directions are always written from the perspective of the actor facing forward towards the audience, so that, if the direction is to move left, he has to go to his left.
