The part of the vertebrate brain that is made up of the tectum and the tegmental area is known as the midbrain.
It is also known as mesencephalon.
The midbrain performs several functions such as
Controlling the motor movements
Auditory processing
Control of eye movements
Visual processing
The midbrain is located deep inside the brain and as a part of its structure it includes - ventral tegmental area, substantia niagra, tectum, cerebral aqueduct and the cerbral peduncles.
