In Berlin, Walter Gropius founded the Bauhaus School of Art and Architecture, which became the censure of all top-notch artwork and architectural designs.

America also felt the wind of change within this period. The most significant being the cultural change in America instigated by Prohibition of the sale and import of alcohol, and the Great Depression. The period saw the boom of Jazz music, soap operas and religious sermons.

Feminism and women right movements also gained prominence in America during this period. This period is also remarkable for the improvement in race relations. Minorities were treated with more equality within this period than they were previously treated. In movies and on the stage, black and white players appeared together for the first time, while it became common in nightclubs to see whites and blacks dancing and dining together.

Also, the Dada movement which began in Zurich, Germany flourished in Photography, Sculpture, Painting, Poetry, and Collage, within this same period. This period also experienced the revival of realistic depiction of artistic works such as painting which reflected the harsh reality of war.

The German film and cinema industry was not left out in this terrific transitioning, as same also thundered this era.  A realistic style of presentation of art was also employed in the film. They often had unrealistic sets and exaggerated acting techniques.  The major setback of the filmmakers at that time was the paucity of funds. This led to the depiction of darker story lines and themes, including horror and crime.  The most prominent film directors of the time were Fritz Lang and F.W. Murnau.
