The presence of somatic symptoms characterizes Somatomorphic disorders; that is, the presents physical symptoms, but no evidence of a disease is found, so there is no medical explanation of the ailments presented by the person.  

The symptoms of this disorder include the following:

  • The person has somatic symptoms that cause difficulties in performing their routines.
  • Exaggerated thoughts or behaviors related to the symptoms can be identified; for example, medical examinations can be continuously performed.
  • He worries exaggeratedly about his health.

Somatomorphic disorders are more prone in people belonging to the Asian and African-American culture; some studies determinated their vulnerability is because these people do not have the facility to have the medical or psychological care that they require, instead other cultures, such as those belonging to the western culture, they present less vulnerability since they can obtain the required help and greater education on mental health.
