However, the presence of continents causes the tides to vary across coastal regions of different continents -mixed. This is because the ocean waters are not free-flowing with the moon’s and sun’s gravitational pull. The blockage by continentals to this flow causes mixed diurnal and mixed semi-diurnal tides. Mixed semi-diurnal tides have two high and low tides of unequal amplitudes on a lunar day.
