Solutions can be classified as following on the basis of solubility of solutes.
(i) Unsaturated Solutions:
These are solutions which has the ability to dissolve more solute in given amount of solvent at given temperature. Hence, when solutes are added in such solutions they dissolve completely.
(ii) Saturated Solutions:
The solutions which when aded with solute fails to dissolve it are called saturated solutions. These solutions are already saturated with dissolved solutes and don't have the ability to dissolve more. Hence, when solutes are added to saturated solutions they settle down or precipitate out at the bottom.
(iii) Supersaturated Solutions:
These solutions are formed when the saturated solutions are heated. After heating the solubility of solute increases and hence, more solute can dissolve. And when supersaturated solutions are allowed to cool the extra dissolved solutes starts precipitating out.
