Founded in 1987, The Power Plant is Canada’s leading public art gallery devoted to the presentation of contemporary art, artists and ideas through exhibitions, publications, talks, and events.
The Power Plant was initially established in 1976 as the Art Gallery at Harbourfront. The original powerhouse, with its companion building The Ice House (today the Harbourfront Centre Theatre), was constructed in 1926 to house the heating and refrigeration equipment for the massive Toronto Terminal Warehouse (now Queen's Quay Terminal). Part of the Federal Government's acquisition of a 92-acre lakefront site, The Power Plant was in operation as an actual power plant until 1980. ~ History Source Thepowerplant.org
It’s probably well suited In it’s location because The best location for a hydroelectric station should be along the path of a river. It should be at least at the river canyon or at the place where the river narrows. This enables the collection of the water or the diversion of the river.~ Source https://sciencing.com/info-8619867-factors-affecting-selection-hydroelectric-station.html
When Electricity is produced at a an electric power plant. Some fuel source, such as coal, oil, natural gas, or nuclear energy produces heat. The heat is used to boil water to create steam. The spinning turbine interacts with a system of magnets to produce electricity.
To generate power, a power plant needs to have an energy source. One source of energy is from the burning of fossil fuels, such as coal, oil and natural gas.
Then we also have nuclear power, and finally renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, wave and hydroelectric.
Originally, the only source of power was Direct Current, or DC systems, but it wasn’t until Alternating Current, or AC systems were introduced that the power could be carried the distances necessary to be suitable for distribution to the masses.~Source https://realpars.com/power-plant/
