Some have argued that the Mesopotamian influence on Greek myth is pervasive and strong. Based on your comparative reading of the Enuma Elish and Hesiod’s Theogony, do you agree with this statement? Why or Why not? **You can support your arguments with the images of these gods in ancient art.

Answer:

I agree

Explanation:

The Enuma Elish is the Mesopotamiam creation myth and tells the story how the universe came into being through the struggle among Gods (for example Apsu, the sweet & fresh water God and Tiamat, the bitter water Goddess). Their son Marduk is succesfull in overcoming the evil powers and becomes King of the empire.

The Theogony by Hesiod is the genealogy or birth of the Gods. This shows that the Theogony, like Enuma Elish is a Cosmic myth, i.e. a myth that explains the world through the ¨adventures¨ of Gods.
