Once children can read smoothly, understand figurative language and use prior knowledge to understand new words, they can be described as _______ readers.

Early Readers often times termed as first readers, are readers, mostly children, who can read smoothly, by tackling known and predictable words with confidence, understanding the meaning of figurative expression in a text, and as well able to reflect and make correlation from the text to past experience or knowledge to understand meaning of new words.

This can be referred to as Inferential comprehension: a stage in which one can understand the underlying meaning of a text through identifying tone and usage of words, evaluating and interpreting information and as well combining ideas to draw conclusions from the text.
