The midpoint of line AB is M(-6,2). if the coordinates of A are (-5,-2), what are the coordinates of B?

Respuesta :

The co-ordinates of B are (-7,6)

Step-by-step explanation:

Step 1 :

Given

Mid point of the the AB is M (-6,2)

A = ( -5,-2)

Let the point B be (x,y)

where x is the co ordinate of x  and y =  co ordinate of y

Step 2 :

The x co-ordinate of a line segment's midpoint obtained by adding the x co-ordinate of its end point and dividing by 2.

The y co-ordinate of a line segment's midpoint obtained by adding the y co-ordinate of its end point and dividing by 2.

Since  M is the mid point, we have.,

[tex]\frac{(-5+x)}{2}[/tex]  = -6  and  [tex]\frac{(-2+y)}{2}[/tex]  = 2

so, -5 + x = -12

x = -7

-2 + y = 4

y = 6

Step 3 :

Answer :

The co-ordinates of B are (-7,6)
