Abuse is really serious, especially one committed at home. I'm really glad your friend confided in you, and you should understand that he/she is going through a difficult time. School counselors are always a good idea, and definitely your parents. Your friend might be worried about his/her parents/guardians/whoever getting into trouble, but he/she should know that it is not their fault and no one deserves that. I hope it gets better. :)
