Discrete variable contains a certain number or unique number(like a whole number), a discrete variable is countable and you can know the exact number.

So number of student reading statistics book is a unique number and countable. A continuous number can be a real number e.g(2.3, 5.678) etc

So the statistic student reading book can be 10, 34, 1000, 356, etc

But the statistic student reading the book can't be 1½, 56⅔, 7.6. We can't have two and a half people, it is either 2 or 3 people.
