The Great Gatsby is F Scott. Fitzgerald's 1925 novel. It tells a story about a man called Jay Gatsby. Gatsby's dream is to be reunited with his ex-girlfriend, Daisy. Although Daisy has married and had a child, Gatsby throws glamorous parties, hoping that Daisy will notice him.

Gatsby does eventually reunite with Daisy, but the readers quickly realize that Daisy cares about her financial security more than her actual happiness. This is not true for Gatsby, whose unconditional love prevents him from rational thinking. Daisy's marriage to Tom Buchanan is not the happiest one - he is an abusive man who has an affair.  She, however, stays with him, aware that her husband will provide her financial security and stand up for her. Gatsby's dream of being with Daisy, on the other hand, leads to his naiveness, and he fails to see what kind of person Daisy is. He seems to believe that him and Daisy will somehow end up together, until the very end of the novel, when he dies.
