When United States President got to know about Zimmerman’s letter, this shocked everyone and led President Wilson to no longer call for peace.
Further Explanation:-
President of United States, Woodrow Wilson initiated a step and asked Congress to send troops of United States military against Germans in year 1917. President Wilson never supported the war as he always thought that the war was most fearful thing to lead great and peace loving people of United States. After President asked Congress to declare the war, four days later congress Obliged President’s will and declared full blown war on Germany. But what can be the reason behind sudden change in mind of President Wilson’s theory of not going into war?
Well, it was Zimmermann’s telegram. In 1917, Germany was already involved in war against Britain, France and Russia. During same period of time, it was a Zimmermann telegram which was issued by Foreign office of Germany and was addressed to Ambassador of Germany in Mexico. In that telegram, Germans promised Mexico to help them get Texas, New Mexico and Arizona back if they help Germans in war against United States. This telegram was leaked in public and there was outrage against Germans in the streets all over United States and this was the reason which made President Wilson to ask Congress to abandon America’s policy of not to enter war.
