my brothers 7 1/2 year dog is scratching his back and tail and he’s literally bald on the back, and has raw skin showing cause he scratches his skin so much with his teeth, he has these skin growths on his tail to that look like skin cancer or some keloid. I noticed one week ago that his back legs are very weak, and he dragged his legs like he couldn’t use them, he rolls on the porch all day to scratch his rough bald back. i looked on google and it says he could have degenerative myelopathy, it affects the muscles in the back legs. It happens usually in older dogs. I told my brother that sooner or later he’ll have to put down his dog and he’s wondering when he should?

Explanation:

Im not a veterinarian, but a fellow dog owner. I really hope your dog is ok and not in extreme pain.

You should consult a vet when you think it is causing your dog too much discomfort. I'm sure a professional would help you with diagnosing though maybe costly. Some places check your pet out for free. I would research your nearby pet clinics for information.

best of luck for him, you, and your brother.

Answer:

My dog baby  did the same thing we thought it might be her old age  or some thing until we noticed my dog diamond was doing the something and that they had flea they where  allergic to them  they where  getting thinner because they where  becoming emaciate by the fleas so we ended up giving them a bath every 2-3 days and treating the house once or twice a week and vacuuming everyday and we helped them gain their weight slowly by giving them butterd rice mixed in with their regular food along with some type of meat baby would get the bumps because she was allergic to the fleas they are both back to normal and are happy as can be

Baby has some bumps on her that has been there for 1-2 years but those are common among older dogs

I would still sagest taking him to the vet to make sure it isn't something more serious but my dog baby was having trouble with her back legs and it was because that was where most of the fleas where feeding on her back half her legs are back to normal and the only thing that is wrong with her is because of old age we have had her scene i was around 3 or 5 i am now fifteen 4 days away from 16 so she's probably  around 70 years old in dog years

baby is in the first picture and Diamond is in the second
