Answer:

The adult stem cell can renew itself and can differentiate to yield some or all of the major specialized cell types of the tissue or organ. The primary roles of adult stem cells in a living organism are to maintain and repair the tissue in which they are found.

The undifferentiated cells present throughout the body are called stem cells.  Adults have staem cells for repair of damaged organs and tissues.

What are adult stem cells?

The undifferentiated stem cells divide and are present in our body to divide continuously and replace any damaged region in our body. The cells in our body are specialized to perform a specific function.

This specialization is acquired by the process of differentiation. But because stem cells are undifferentiated they do not perform any specialized function in our body.

The stem cells are not specialized but when the need arises, they divide rapidly and can replenish any damaged tissue in the body. Stem cells are used in the body of an adult so that they can be used when required.

The regeneration of stem cells is what allows the healing of a wound. This regeneration also has the capacity to repair organ damage. For example in the case of liver transplant, the liver of the donor is regenerated.

Therefore, fully grown adults have stem cells for the purpose of repair and replenishment of damaged tissues.
