Let's say we had 5 candies in the bowl. Each are a different color. The probability of getting a certain color is 1/5 = 0.20 = 20%
Then after the first selection is made and not put back, the second person has a probability of 1/4 = 0.25 = 25%, so the probability is not the same. This makes the second event dependent on the first. The first candy must be put back or replaced to keep the second probability the same.
