The discounted clock would be 6 dollars. I found this by creating a table with 3/3, 2/3, and 1/3 on one side and the 18 across from 3/3 since it is the regular price. To find 2/3 I think we should find 1/3 first. To find that we simply divide 18 by 3 since we are finding one third of 18. Luckily 3 evenly goes into 18 6 times. Now we aren’t done, that is 1/3 so we double the 1/3 which is 2/3 and we double the 6 which is 12. Now that we know how much those cost, it says 2/3 off. The regular price was 18 and 2/3 was 12 so 18-2/3 is 18-12 which equals 6. The discounted alarm clock is $6.00.
The amount that is discounted by buying the alarm clock today given the usual cost and the discount is $6.
How much is discounted?
When the price of an item is discounted, the item becomes cheaper to purchase.
The amount discounted = fraction of the regular price x usual price
2/3 x $18 = $12
The price of the item = $18 - $12 = $6
