the four corners os a rectangular city block are located at (-5,-2),(-5,9),(9,9), and (9,-2) on the coordinate grid below. Randy walks all the way around the block and stops when he gets back to where he started. Each unit on the grid represents 10 meters. How many meters does Randy walk? Type the answer in the box below

Respuesta :

The distance traveled by Randy  is  500 m

The Four coordinates of the rectangle are given by the following points

Let the points be A, B, C and D

A  (-5,-2)

B ( -5,9)

C ( 9,9 )

D ( 9,-2)

Each unit on the grid represents  10 meters

The Distance formula for two points

[tex](x_1, y_1) \; and\; (x_2, y_2) \; is \; given\; by \; formula \\\\d = \sqrt{(x_1-x_2)^2- (y_1-y_2)^2 } ........(1)[/tex]

On Putting he values of A and B  in equation (1) we get

[tex]d_{AB} = 11[/tex]

Similarly on putting the values of  B and C in equation (1) we get

[tex]d_{BC} = 14[/tex]

now the perimeter of rectangle is given by equation (2)

[tex]\rm Perimeter \; of\; Rectangle = 2( d_{AB} + d_{BC}).......(2)[/tex]

Perimeter = 2[tex]\times[/tex](11 + 14)  = 50

Since each unit on the grid represents  10 meters hence

The distance traveled by Randy = 10 [tex]\times[/tex] 50 = 500 m
