According to PubMed, "In 1882, at 19 months of age, Helen Keller developed a febrile illness that left her both deaf and blind. Historical biographies attribute the illness to rubella, scarlet fever, encephalitis, or meningitis." Helen Keller's diease was fatal, leading to deafblindness. But, even still, she was able to overcome her shortcomings and move forward with a productive life. Anne Sullivan (a famous Perkins School for the Blind's student), helped Helen get back on her feet during her most diffucult times. As a child sufferening from being deaf and blind, what Helen needed most was support and encouragment. Through frustration, Helen was just lost. Anne taught Helen her first-word 'water', which broke Helen free. Helen's teacher's teaching method was special; letting Helen feel what she was learning, and Anne would spell out each word on Helen's hand. Helen soon became encouarged and found learning fun. She overcame her weaknesses while learning to read and write successfully. She soon graduated , and became very successful. Helen even wrote her own book, and became an author.
