What are the role of women on the Union home front?
They worked in a variety of capabilities, from cooking to nursing to clashing on the front lines. Women formed aid organizations to support both Union and Confederate soldiers. They planted gardens; removed food; cooked; sewed uniforms, blankets, and socks; and did laundry for the troops.
As the men fought abroad, females on the Home Front performed in defense plants and volunteered for war-related associations, in addition to operating their households. In New Orleans, as the demand for public transportation grew, women became streetcar “conductresses” for the first time.
Prior to World War II, women existed mostly homemakers. Those that operated outside the home usually performed as secretaries, receptionists, or department store clerks. Once America entered World War II, however, men went off to war by the millions and women ambled into the civilian and military careers they left behind.
Therefore, Women performed numerous of the jobs that men did before the war exist correct.
