1 2/3 * 7/8...turn the mixed number to an improper fraction
5/3 * 7/8 = 35/24 = 1 11/24
When multiplying fractions you can simply multiply across. Changing the mixed fraction to an improper fraction will make this easier. To change [tex]1 \frac{2}{3} [/tex] from a mixed to a proper, simply multiply the denominator by the whole number (3*1) and add the numerator (3+2). The improper fraction is [tex] \frac{5}{3} [/tex] .

Now simply multiply across so [tex] \frac{5}{3} * \frac{7}{8} = \frac{5*7}{3*8} = \frac{35}{24} [/tex]
