Atom: An atom is the smallest particle of any element. It is the building block of matter and is composed of three subatomic particles that is electron, proton, and neutron.

Molecular compound: Compounds that are made up of covalent bonds that is by sharing of electrons between the atoms are said to be molecular compounds. Due to weak force of attraction between them that is covalent bond they exist in gas form.

Element: Substance that is made up of single type of atom only are said to be element.

Mixture: Combination of two or more substances in which each substance retains its identity is known as mixture.

Molecule: When two or more atoms combine together and form a substance which has completely new properties is said to be a molecule.

Since, [tex]CO_2[/tex] has two different types of elements that is carbon, [tex]C[/tex] and oxygen, [tex]O[/tex] which combine in 1:2 ratio by sharing of electrons between them and results in the formation of molecular compound.

Hence, [tex]CO_2[/tex] is an example of a molecular compound.
