Answer:
The correct answer would be A) homeostasis.
Homeostasis can be defined as the state in which body or living being tends to maintain the internal environment at relatively stable equilibrium.
Blood sugar levels, body temperature, pH, fluid balance, et cetera are few variables which are required to maintain within the pre-set limits or homeostatic range in order to achieve optimum functioning of the organism.
For example, in human beings the body tries to maintain internal temperature at around 37°C.
Nervous system and endocrine system are the main regulators of the homeostasis in human beings.
I believe the correct answer is homeostasis
Explanation:
The body can be termed as one single cell due to the fact that for it to function properly, it must mantain a constant internal environment through a process called homeostasis.
Further Explanation:
1. Homeostasis:
This is a very much sensitive process that maintains ions, electrolytes, water levels, body temperature and other processes for the body to function properly. For example during winter, the body needs to conserve and produce energy to mantain the body core temperature at 37 degrees centrigrade. To do this, when you are cold, the body will cause rapid contraction of erector pilli muscles generating heat and raising hair to conserve heat. The blood vessels also contract and move deeper to prevent loss of energy. The liver then kicks into action and warms the blood for you. Circulating the warm blood makes you feel a sudden warmth and the body temperature is back to normal. Homeostasis operates via a Positive feedback mechanism that accelerates a process and a negative feedback mechanism that limits or lessens a process.
2. Evolution:
This is a process which inheritable changes occur in an organism over a period of time. It usually is for the benefit of the survival of the select animal species. For example, the human species went from walking with 4 legs to 2 legs in order to obtain food easily through hunting and picking fruits. This change usually takes a very long time to occur and is permanent.
3. Metabolism:
This is a set of chemical reactions that must occur in a living organism to maintain life. These reactions can be anabolic where there is buildup and catabolic where there is breakdown of molecules. Catabolism is a favorite that happens for example breakdown of carbohydrates in the ileum to produce simple sugars that are easily absorbed and taken to the bloodstream for energy.
4. Photosynthesis.
This is a chemical reaction that strictly occurs in plants with chlorophyll. A reducing reaction occurs in the presence of sunlight to reduce carbon dioxide into glucose whilst producing oxygen. The glucose provides energy for the plant.
