The checkpoint responsible for checking this is G1 CHECKPOINT. There are three types of checkpoint in cell cycle. G1 checkpoints evaluates damage to a cell DNA and all other external factors. If conditions are inadequate, cell division will not proceed to the S phase of the interphase. G2 checkpoint ensures that all the chromosomes have been replicated and that the replicated DNA is not damaged. The M checkpoint ensures that the sister chromatids are properly attached to the spindle.
The checkpoints control the cell cycle. The three most important checkpoints are: G1 checkpoint, G2 checkpoint and the spindle checkpoint. The G1 checkpoint is the decision checkpoint that choosses whether the cell will be or will not to divide. If a cell has damaged DNA, the checkpoint G1 is responsible for checking it.
