7 and 8 might need a little explanation. Basically life is similar to a vine, it never stop growing until you uproot it. In this analogy uprooting is similar to death. The speaker is obviously an older person in despair about life and that it's not all it's glorified to be. Thus by thinking about this you can see that a vine is similar to life in a sense that seems quite natural.
