Bacteria can reproduce in as little as 20 minutes. Protists and fungi take hours or days to double in number or size. Why can bacteria reproduce at a much faster rate?

Respuesta :

i might be wrong but i’m pretty sure it’s because they reproduce asexually and just make copies of themselves

Bacteria are prokaryotes while protists and fungi are eukaryotes.

Cells are largely classified into two; prokaryotic cells and eukaryotic cells.

Prokaryotic cells do not have a nucleus or organelles while a eukaryotic cell has a nucleus and organelles.

Because bacteria are prokaryotic cells, bacteria reproduces via a process called binary fission which occurs very rapidly.

Protists and fungi are eukaryotic cells and undergo a more complicated process of reproduction.

As a result of this, bacteria can reproduce in as little as 20 minutes while  protists and fungi take hours or days to double in number or size.
