They are the home of modern ecology and also where Charles Darwin developed his theories on evolution and adaptation. Another factor that makes them unique is their climate. The islands straddle the equador, making the climate temperate.
The Alamo in San Antonio, Texas, on the other hand is rather small, and there's not much to explore, only around 3 hours worth of sightseeing.
